True Story: A Tin Can, a Rock, and a Dream That Moved Nations



In the dusty village of Zvipani, Zimbabwe, a young girl named Tererai Trent was told her life would follow a set path—marriage by adolescence, children soon after, and no education. But something in her refused to accept that fate.


When a visitor came to her village and asked, “What are your dreams?” no one had ever asked her that before. That night, she wrote them down on a scrap of paper:


  • Go to America

  • Get a degree

  • Earn a PhD

  • Return to empower others



She sealed her list in a tin can and buried it beneath a rock.


Years later, she had achieved every one of those goals. Her story reached Oprah Winfrey, who called her the most inspiring guest she’d ever interviewed. Oprah funded the building of several schools in Zimbabwe because of her.


But it wasn’t just Tererai’s dreams that changed lives—it was her clarity. Her message was so focused, so full of purpose, that others wanted to be part of it.

Each session runs for 120 minutes and is best experienced with key staff and board members involved.
