Heavy doesn’t have to mean too hard.
All day we box things up so we can keep going. The boxes pile up out of sight, and then one small thing sets them all off. Box of feels helps you notice the boxes, name what’s in them, and open them on purpose, one box at a time. It takes the heavy stuff seriously without making it grim, with cartoons, games and the odd laugh along the way.
Free while it’s in beta. No ads, and nobody is selling what you write.
How it works
Three moves. You can do them with a pen and paper too. The app just makes them easier to keep doing.
Count what lands
When something hits, tap Small, Big or Really big. You don’t have to know what it is yet. A gauge shows your load building, so you get warning before it all goes BAM.
Name it
Open the box and find the feeling on the wheel, then get more exact with the thesaurus. Stung is not the same day as shattered. Find where it sits in your body, and put it into words.
Open it on purpose
Work on one box at the desk, put another off until tonight, file it, or let it go for good. Keep the good ones on the bookshelf so they don’t slip past.
Built to be safe and kind
Your words stay yours
- Everything stays on your phone unless you choose an account.
- With an account, your boxes are locked with a passphrase only you know. Not even the people who run it can read them.
- A passcode lock, and an Exit app button on every screen, for anyone who isn’t safe at home.
Real people, not just a phone
- Pick your five: the people who keep you connected, with reminders when it’s been too long.
- A one-page summary you can take to your GP or psychologist.
- Need help now? sits at the top of every screen.
Box of feels isn’t a crisis service or medical care. If you need to talk to someone now, call Lifeline on 13 11 14, any time. If you’re in danger, call 000.

Who’s behind it
Box of feels is made by Dave Bolt at TenXed, from a way of thinking about feelings he’s used for years: we box things up, and the boxes need opening. Technical advice from Phixx Creative.
