What it looks like when we work together

No case study ever tells the whole story. These three show the kind of problems leaders bring, what we did about them, and what changed.

Community organisation, Midland WA

Dreambuilders Care becomes the Local Hub

  • Leader: Ursula, founder
  • Work: Strategic planning, independence, rebrand, supporter community, Magnetic Mission
  • Format: Retainer and program

Where they started

A busy community care service in Midland, known and loved locally, but tied to a structure that no longer fitted where it was going. The founder carried most of it, and the name no longer said what the organisation actually did.

What we did

We worked through the strategic plan together and set out the path to standing on its own. The organisation was rebranded as the Local Hub, with a name and story that match what people experience when they walk in. We built Friends of the Local Hub, a supporter community that gives locals a simple way to belong and give. Magnetic Mission sessions sharpened the mission story so volunteers, donors and partners could repeat it.

What changed

A clear identity, a plan the board and team can point to, and a supporter base that is being built on purpose rather than by accident.

Ranger Red's Zoo: from passion project to fundable organisation

  • Leader: Bradley "Red" Holland, Ranger Red Shed Inc.
  • Work: DGR application, donation pathway, "Zoo to You" campaign, retainer
  • Format: Project then retainer

Where they started

A much-loved zoo and conservation park run on heart and hard work, with a mobile "Zoo to You" program taking animals into schools and events. Plenty of goodwill, but no way for supporters to give tax-deductibly and no steady income beyond gate takings and bookings.

What we did

We prepared the application for Deductible Gift Recipient status as an environmental organisation, including the covering letter and supporting documents. Alongside that, we set out a website and donation platform so giving is simple, and shaped the "Zoo to You" campaign as an ongoing story rather than a one-off appeal. The work continues month by month on retainer, which is how it should be: steady support, not fundraising sprints.

What changed

A clear funding pathway where there was none, and a founder who can spend more time with animals and visitors and less time worrying about where next month's feed bill comes from.

Crossways Community Services: five years alongside

  • Leader: Wendy Hankins, Director
  • Work: Strategy and consulting, board service, website, community chaplaincy
  • Format: Ongoing

Where they started

An established charity doing serious work in its community, with a small team carrying a lot and a board that needed more hands and more structure.

What we did

Over five years Dave has served Crossways in several ways: consulting on strategy and structure, serving on the board (including as secretary), building the website, and working on the ground as community chaplain. That mix means the advice is grounded in what the front line actually looks like.

What changed

In Wendy's words: "I have had the pleasure working with Dave Bolt over the past 5 years in a range of capacities at our charity. I have found him to be a very encouraging, genuine and sincere person with many inspirational and creative talents."
